AACN President Elect Session Beth Hammer is the president-elect of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). She had the honor of serving on the AACN Board of Directors from 2005 to 2008. Hammer was secretary of the Board from 2007 to 2008. Beth is certified as an adult nurse practitioner (NP) and works in the Cardiology section at the Zablocki VA Medical Center (ZVAMC) in Milwaukee, WI. Her primary role with the Electrophysiology (EP) Team is to provide initial consultation and long term follow up care for veterans with acute and chronic arrhythmias, including patients with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). She has been instrumental in creating an electrophysiology program that is a regional referral site with optimal patient outcomes. In her role as a cardiology NP Beth also provides key leadership and oversight for the 23-Hour Chest Pain Evaluation Program. She shares her clinical expertise as adjunct faculty in the Concordia University graduate program. Beth earned her BSN from the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, MN and her MSN from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. She began her career on a medical-telemetry unit then transferred to the MICU.
